Start the New Year Off Right

After the last two years, many are excited to start the new year off on the right foot.

We make resolutions and promise ourselves to stick to them. We write down what these resolutions will be and off we go!

Before we realize it, we find ourselves going back to the way things used to be and getting the same results. Familiarity is innate in all of us, so we are not alone when we don’t always keep our resolutions. Here are some tips to start the new year off right.

Be easy on yourself.

Set specific goals that are reasonable and attainable. The easiest way to fall short of the goals we make is to make them unattainable.

Being careful with our choices will allow for better success.

Keep a journal. A journal to record thoughts, experiences, and feelings can be beneficial to self-care. A journal can help to achieve goals, keep track of progress, reduce stress, improve writing, find inspiration, and strengthen memory.

Create a plan.

Whether it be limiting time on social media, electronic devices, or getting more exercise, make each one realistic and try to stick to it! There will be times that we may veer off course. If you find yourself in this predicament, don’t hesitate to make course corrections. Nothing is written in stone, remember go easy on yourself.

Get plenty of sleep.

Not getting enough sleep will have an impact on how the rest of your day will progress. Make sleep a priority. It is recommended that kids from 6 to 12 years old get 9 to 12 hours per day, 3 to 18 get 8 to 10 hours per day, and adults 7 or more per day. Make sleep a priority.

Stay hydrated.

One of the most important things you can do for yourself is to stay hydrated. Drinking water has many health benefits. It can prevent infections, improve cognition levels, mood, and improve your quality of sleep.

Balance work and play.

In many cases, work and school take priority over other aspects of our lives. Homework will always be there, and it should definitely be done, but it is important to build balance into the schedule of our lives. Schedule time with friends, family, and for yourself.

So, if you find yourself needing a helping hand, talk to a trusted friend or family member, so they can support you along your journey into the new year.

These are just a few tips to start the new year off right.
