April Showers with A Grade Ahead: Five Fun Indoor Enrichment Activities

At A Grade Ahead of central Ohio, we are quite literally living the expression “April showers bring May flowers.” It seems all of the days have been full of rain, with more to promised to come before the month is done! This time of year can be difficult as we are excited for spring, but Mother Nature is not quite cooperating in the weather department. So while we are waiting for the promised blooms of May, why not try some of these enriching indoor activities with your student?

Are you wanting even more when it comes to education for your child? A Grade Ahead offers educational enrichment classes in both English and math. Take a free assessment, or call or visit an academy near you to get started on an unforgettable educational adventure today!

Try A Spring Read!

Reading is a great way to travel to far-off destinations without even leaving your own home. Why not create your own family book club? Read a book together and discuss it as a family. If you are looking for seasonal recommendations, see my post from last month, which has spring book suggestions for all ages!

Did you know that A Grade Ahead focuses heavily on comprehension skills? It’s true that we practice comprehension in our classrooms as early as kindergarten!

Write All About It!

Maybe reading a good book inspires you to try your hand at writing something of your own! Luckily, writing is the perfect indoor activity for a rainy day. It can allow you to exercise mentally by stretching your imagination and creativity. If you enjoy writing, why not look into our blog series “Creative Writing Corner,” which walks you through all of the steps. And if you need a prompt to get you started, here is a seasonal one for spring.

A Grade Ahead realizes the importance of strong writing skills. That’s why we begin teaching how to write a great long-form response in our 3rd grade English program.

Get Organized!

A little spring cleaning is a great way to stay active even if you can’t go outside due to wet weather. Getting organized is a great way to clear the clutter of both physical and mental spaces. If you need some helpful tips or motivation, check out this past blog post by A Grade Ahead staff member, Susanna Robbins.

Find an Indoor Adventure!

While you may not be able to explore the great outdoors, you can still get outside of your own home. Many educational adventures await that are not relegated to being outside. Check out our “Educational Adventures” blog series by Amanda Hutson if you are looking for ideas. My recommendation for central Ohio residents who want to stay in while getting out? COSI.

Think Outside The Box!

A Grade Ahead celebrates education in all of its forms! We believe that learning can be fun, and there are many popular games and programs that support this idea. That’s why we have our “Unconventional Education” blog series. Check it out, and see if your student’s next educational hobby awaits! Bonus? All of these activities are indoor-friendly, so they can be enjoyed during the rainiest April day. My personal favorite is Animal Crossing, but maybe your child loves Minecraft. Either way, education awaits in surprising places!

What do you think? What are your favorite activities for when the spring rain forces you indoors? Have you tried any of the recommendations above? We would love to hear from you in the comments!

Do you want even more? Summer is just around the corner. See if A Grade Ahead is offering one of our enrichment camps in your area, and keep learning!
