At A Grade Ahead, spring has sprung and is well underway! While our programs run year-round, we know that this time of year can be a time of great excitement, with summer vacation right around the corner. It may also be a time when parents start to consider how to keep their children engaged and learning during break. What better way than to have some educational fun with creative writing and try one (or more) of these writing prompts about spring? You can even make it a family affair and share your responses with each other when you are done.
Are you wanting even more when it comes to education for your child? A Grade Ahead offers educational enrichment classes in both English and math. Call or visit an academy near you to get a free curriculum sample, take a free assessment, or sign up for a free trial class today!
Writing Prompts for 4-7 Year Olds
If your child is unable to write independently, don’t worry! Have them tell you their response verbally and write if for them if you wish.
- Image that your backyard is transformed into a magical garden. What happens when you go outside to explore? Use your imagination!
- Imagine that you are outside one spring day, and you suddenly realize that you can talk to all of the animals! What happens, and what adventures do you go on with your new friends? Be creative!
- Think of words that rhyme. If you want, write a poem with some of the words!

Did you know that A Grade Ahead offers programs for children in Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, and 1st grade?
Writing Prompts for 8-12 Year Olds
- What is your favorite thing to do on a spring day (or during spring break/vacation)? Think and write about it in as much detail as possible.
- Imagine you are a superhero: “Spring Sam!” Write a story or design a comic that explores a day in your life. What are your superpowers? What happens to you? Who is the villain, and how do you save the day? Use your imagination!
- Write a poem about spring. This can be about anything: the weather, animals, activities, etc. It can rhyme, but it doesn’t have to. Try to use as many details and descriptions as possible!
A Grade Ahead may be the perfect fit for your elementary school student. We offer programs for 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students!
Writing Prompts for 13+
- Describe the perfect spring day. Think about it in detail from the moment you wake up to the time you go to bed. Try to make the reader feel immersed in the day as you experience it!
- Invent a new spring holiday for students! What would the holiday be called, and how would students commemorate it? Try to think about what, or for what reasons, you and your classmates would love to celebrate this time of year.
- Write a poem about spring. For an extra challenge, have the poem span the start of spring to the beginning of summer. How does the season change as it goes on? You can write any type of poem you want!
A Grade Ahead does not forget about our older students, offering programs for those in 7th grade, 8th grade, and high school!
What do you think? Is your child interested in creative writing? Which prompt are you excited to dive into? We would love to hear from you or see your creations in the comments!
