A GRADE AHEAD’S EMPLOYEE SPOTLIGHT SERIES: MEET OUR TEACHER AND ADMINISTRATOR, SARAH SARFRAZSarah is a graduate of Queens College, in Flushing, New York, with a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and has been with A Grade Ahead for over 3 years. Sarah wears duel hats:, she is a teacher and works in administration as well.  Sarah and I met to talk so I could ask her a few questions so that we could all get to know more about her!

What Is Your Favorite Part Of Working For A Grade Ahead?

My favorite part of working for A Grade Ahead are my fellow staff members. I feel that everyone I’ve worked with so far has been so kind, open, and are always ready to give a helping hand. This friendly environment has helped me become a better co-worker to my peers, and a better teacher to my students. I really feel like I’m part of an awesome team!

What Would You Like To Do Most In The Future? (Either Professionally Or Personally)

I haven’t done much traveling in the past, and I think that’s something I’d definitely love to do more in the future. .

What Do You Like To Do For Fun?

I love board games! My ideal night is to invite a whole bunch of close friends and family, order some pizza, and just have a great time playing all kinds of board games and card games. I think that’s one of the best ways you can spend quality time with anyone.

What is Your Favorite Children’s Book?

As a kid, I remember that I loved books by Shel Silverstein. I really enjoyed the books “A Light in the Attic,” and “Where the Sidewalk Ends.” I found his poetry whimsical and fun to read.

If You Could Go Anywhere, Where Would You Go? Why?

Oh Gosh, do I only have to pick one? I’d love to just take a month and travel to as many places as I can! There are so many different people, food, language, art, and cultures to experience out there. I feel like there’s so much to learn from traveling, and every destination is different from another. I wouldn’t mind starting from Spain though!

What Historical Figure Do You Think Is A Good Role Model For Kids? Why?

There are quite a few historical figures that I believe are good role models. Martin Luther King Jr., Abraham Lincoln, Rosa Parks… just to name a few. I think that any person who fights not for power, but fights for humanity, and for the betterment of mankind is a wonderful role model to have.

 What Is The Best Advice For Students Who Want To Excel In School?

The best advice I can give to any student is to work hard and be a part of activities that keep your mind and body active and engaged.

Describe One Teacher Or Educational Experience That Changed Your Life.

Working for A Grade Ahead has actually been a great educational experience for me. I believe that by interacting with so many students in the past few years and talking to my fellow teachers about the AGA curriculum and different teaching methods has truly helped me become a better teacher. It’s a wonderful experience to see your students excel in their work because of your efforts. It makes my job so gratifying and fun!

What Is Your Favorite Educational Or Motivational Quote?

One of my favorite quotes are, “Differences of habit and language are nothing at all if our aims are identical and our hearts are open.” – Albus Dumbledore, from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire.

Did we forget anything? What else about you would our readers want to know?

As you can tell by my favorite quote, I am definitely a Harry Potter nerd! I also love chocolate and can’t seem to get enough of it. I also love to draw and sketch from time to time, and I absolutely love being with my friends and family. They are my world!
