Introducing Application and Development Month at A Grade Ahead

A Grade Ahead’s May curriculum has been rewritten and focuses on developing logic and extended thinking skills in both math and English. In our Application and Development month, the students will have a chance to develop a deeper understanding of challenging concepts from their current grade and will be introduced to essential skills and concepts that they need for their upcoming school grade in the fall. Many of these concepts align with what students would need to be considered “gifted” or “advanced” at school, and can be helpful in preparing for gifted achievement testing.

Each week of the Application and Development material has…

  • Lessons with practice problems
  • Weekly topics to challenge students with a variety of question formats
  • One long homework worksheet each week to practice concepts they are learning in the week
  • Answers for the homework.

In math, students will have homework and practice problems in the following categories:

Application and Development Month Math Master

Students will practice numerical skills in different ways than they’ve previously learned.

Application and Development Reality Check

Students will practice longer word problems or real-life applications of math concepts and processes.

Application and Development Month Mental Floss

Students will have a chance to use brain teasers and puzzles to learn to think about a concept differently.

In English, students will have homework and practice problems in the following categories:

Application and Development Month Word Works

Older students will practice their vocabulary skills using an approach that is more writing-focused. Younger students will practice with more spelling-focused exercises.

Application and Development Month Written World Book Bonanza

Application and Development Month Mental Floss

Students will have a chance to use brain teasers and puzzles to learn to think about a concept differently.
